Today is Pentecost Sunday, and we’re having some people over for our first household here. From Catholic Encyclopedia:

A feast of the universal Church which commemorates the Descent of the Holy Ghost upon the Apostles, fifty days after the Resurrection of Christ, on the ancient Jewish festival called the “feast of weeks” or Pentecost (Exodus 34:22; Deuteronomy 16:10). Whitsunday is so called from the white garments which were worn by those who were baptised during the vigil; Pentecost (“Pfingsten” in German), is the Greek for “the fiftieth” (day after Easter).

So I hope our household leader will not mind that I’m preparing an extra something today — dessert — to celebrate.

It’s Red-Hot Jello, from Lent and Easter in the Domestic Church

The recipe is easy: Boil 2 cups of water. Add in 2/3 cup of cinnamon candies (red hots); melt them. Add 6 ounces of a red gelatin mix (2 3-ounce boxes or 1 6-ounce box), and then 2 cups of applesauce. Pour into mold and chill until firm.

I’m posting this now for anyone who’s still looking for last-minute ideas. Will update the post with a “finished result” pic when it’s done!
